Since its inception 12 years ago, Earth Hour has become the world's biggest movement to highlight the importance of taking action on environmental issues and protecting the planet.
On Saturday 31 March 2019, the City of Sydney will again be taking part in Earth Hour.
With responsibility for the management and delivery of all hard and soft facilities management services, including maintenance and cleaning, for the City's portfolio of 251 facility assets, we're proud to support the City of Sydney by switching off the lights between 8:30 and 9:30pm at thirty key City of Sydney buildings, including Sydney Town Hall and all community venues across the city.
Lucy McQuillan, Sustainability, Environment and Quality Manager on our City of Sydney contract, says that the theme of Earth Hour this year is Connect2Earth, which is a challenge to switch off and reconnect with the natural environment.
"The use of the Wi-Fi symbol with native Australian animals to promote Earth Hour this year symbolises the connection we should have with our natural environment," Lucy says.
"It's not just about what we do on this one day of the year, but about the initiatives we support and promote throughout the year.
"Ventia is working alongside the City of Sydney to foster this idea of connection and encourage action against climate change, through delivery of sustainability projects and assisting with reduction in energy and water usage across the city."
