The energy transition refers to the broad changes in energy supply and demand required as the world seeks to decarbonise.

This is seeing governments and corporates around the world setting ambitious emissions reductions targets and working to deliver them in a timely manner.

Targets for decarbonising our economy require Australia to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 43% (compared to 2005 levels) by 2030 and reach net zero emissions by 2050. It’s a similar story in NZ, with a target of 50% of total energy consumption to come from renewable sources by 2035 and net zero by 2050.

Ventia delivers a range of services aligned to our client's energy transition needs and we are playing a key role in supporting this transformation across Australia and New Zealand.

By 2050 the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) predicts that utility scale solar and wind are forecast to grow six-fold

The energy transition for Ventia as a whole is a significant opportunity. As a business we have the capability to provide services to clients right across the energy ecosystem starting from energy transition advisory services, initial design engineering, and minor capital works through to operations and maintenance and behind the meter solutions.

By 2050 the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) predicts that utility scale solar and wind are forecast to grow six-fold. Rooftop solar and other consumer-owned energy resources are forecast to grow five-fold*. There’s also about 2000 to 2500km of transmission line that needs to be built on the Australian east and south coasts every year to connect this energy into the system.

Ventia’s capability to support clients through their energy transition needs can be broken up into three key areas:

Energy Networks and Renewables.

Ventia’s capability across “Front of the Meter” (FTM) energy networks has us uniquely placed to support the network augmentation required for more distributed and intermittent energy generation as well as the connection of renewable energy zones (REZ) s to the grid.

As Australia’s energy mix changes the electricity grid needs to be more flexible and operate optimally at any point in time to allow for further electrification. Ventia’s capabilities play to this directly. We bring a compelling offering to clients thanks to our scale, skills and geographical coverage across Australia and New Zealand

Ventia’s energy networks team operate across electricity generation (incl. renewables), transmission, substations and distribution and in gas transmission and distribution. Covering the full spectrum of design, minor capital works, commissioning, operations and maintenance. We are a leader in Australia and New Zealand in transmission live line and substation construction and innovative maintenance solutions, and in distribution poles and wires maintenance.

As a business we have the capability to provide services to clients right across the energy ecosystem

Energy Solutions.

Our energy solutions expertise empowers clients to adapt their assets or estates in response to sustainability and energy security challenges.

Our comprehensive approach includes “Behind the Meter” (BTM) solutions encompassing generation, storage, efficiency (scalable demand and consumption reduction) and enablement (metering, EV charging infrastructure) programs. These initiatives span large assets and estates, driving energy security, resilience and emissions objectives.

Industrial Solutions.

Ventia has a long and extensive history working with resources and industrial clients across Australia's natural gas, refining, petrochemical, power and industrial projects.

As these clients develop and test emerging emissions reductions technologies to decarbonise their operations, Ventia’s expertise in engineering design, minor capital works, operations and maintenance and decommissioning makes us an ideal partner.

Ventia also brings expertise in new and emerging technologies including hydrogen, carbon capture use and storage, power plant decommissioning and remediation.

In conclusion

The energy transition for Ventia as a whole presents a significant opportunity. As a business we have the capability to provide end-to-end service right across the energy ecosystem starting from “front of the meter” initial design engineering, minor capital works through to operations and maintenance, “behind the meter” and industrial solutions.
