When it comes to maintaining our energy networks, upgrading roads, maintaining water plants and pipes or delivering broadband technology there is a growing need to develop a pipeline of young talent.

A key part of this is encouraging more young women to join the infrastructure services industry and see it as a long-term career path. 

With that goal in mind, our Energy Networks and Renewables team on the South Island of New Zealand hosted a group of students from Ellesmere College as part of the Connexis Girls with Hi-Vis® program.  

Girls with Hi-Vis® gives female students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, hear from inspirational women in the industry and learn what a career in the infrastructure's civil, energy, telecommunications and water industries can offer. 

The day included a series of practical demonstrations including driving a digger, building an extension cord and taking a ride in an elevated work platform. 

It also featured a number of presentations. The highlight being the talk by Lucy Bain, Emma Henderson and Catherine (Cat) Price, three young women working across Ventia's Energy Networks and Renewables team who impressed the students with their overview of what a career in infrastructure services looks like.
