Visionstream team in uniform pictured in Kurri Kurri, Australia in front of a mural

Arriving in Kurri Kurri a few years ago to construct two Service Area Modules (SAMs) for the nbn project, our team was struck by the beautiful artwork across the town.

They would soon learn that the town, located in the Hunter region of New South Wales, has become famous for its many murals that adorn its buildings.

Fast forward to a year later and we were delighted when we could play a role in the unveiling of the last addition to the town of murals. Mural number 63, is located on the wall of the Kurri Kurri Hospital, and features an image of the original hospital from the early 1900's.

Whilst we didn't have a hand in painting the mural (they leave that to the experienced artists) we did spend two days with some local volunteer groups building and upgrading the gardens around the artwork, ahead of the unveiling.

The project came about when Visionstream supervisor Chris Thompson struck up a relationship with the local Landcare group whilst working on the SAM's.

"It was through this introduction to the local Landcare group that we came to learn about the mural and garden beautification and decided to sponsor it," Chris said.

Our team worked together with the Landcare group, and volunteers from the hospital and local Men's Shed to build and renovate the garden area immediately beneath the mural.

"The team had a great time working on the project, we were all warmly embraced by the volunteers and hospital staff.'

"The weather was also quite warm, topping out at 38 degrees!"

After our gardening blitz was complete, we were invited along to the official opening of the mural, attended by Hunter-New England Health management and staff, representatives from volunteer groups, as well as the Visionstream EGM NBN/Chorus Tim Harwood.
