Matt Tingey joined Ventia as an electrician earlier this year and says what he loves most about his first job is the environment and the colleagues he works with each day.
"Getting a role with Visionstream after my apprenticeship has been great. The work itself is very interesting and the team I work with makes coming to work enjoyable," he said.
Matt, based in Melbourne, is part of our Essential Services team that supports a range of critical infrastructure programs right across Australia.
"My work mainly involves installing DC power systems, battery banks and DC distribution equipment. The tasks and challenges for each day are different which keeps my brain ticking along well," Matt said.
Visionstream's Essential Services team operates 24-hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to support customers.
Matt said the early starts used to be a challenge, especially as he was doing his apprenticeship, but with two children under two years, early hours are certainly now a normal part of his busy life.
One of the most important parts of my role is staying up to date and across the safety requirements for the work that I do, and implementing those.
We work to the Critical Risk Protocols which help keep us and everyone else safe — but you've always got to be on your toes respecting the dangers and safety requirements of every task," he said.
With a young family, Matt certainly has a lot of reasons to stay safe.
