We work with our clients to ensure we're improving employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.  

One example of this is our participation in the Ramingining Remote Community Development Careers Expo facilitated by the Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation (ALPA).

Ventia, through a joint venture called TRACE, works at the INPEX-operated Ichthys LNG onshore facilities in Darwin to develop the skills of local people for meaningful employment. 

Our participation at the Careers Expo in 2022 resulted in two candidates applying for entry-level roles at Ichthys LNG onshore facilities and we are working with them through a training and development program to support their career journeys. 

TRACE People and Capability Team Lead Nicky Maxwell said we are grateful to be invited by ALPA to participate in the career expo to talk about employment opportunities. 

"Eliha Baker has joined our team with a second prospective employee undergoing recruitment process, both from the remote community of Ramingining in the Northern Territory, and they are building their knowledge of the facility safety protocols and skill level from basic labouring duties. 

"Since joining our team Eliha has worked hard to obtain forklift and working at heights qualifications and is now focused on obtaining his HR licence."

Nicky's colleagues Hannah-Rose Mackie, Mobilisation Coordinator and Derreck Gepp, Scaffold Yard Supervisor both enjoyed discussing career opportunities at the expo. 

"Our program isn't just about hiring people," said Hannah-Rose. 

Living and working away from community has its challenges, so we're working with ALPA to assist with the pre-employment process, housing, ongoing mentoring and support for Eliha and others

A proud Bunuba man, Derreck is enthusiastic about supporting our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees. 

"Whilst there are opportunities for Eliha to develop his skills in specific areas like warehouse, scaffolding and rigging, we will also help them to develop other useful skills they can take back to their communities," said Derreck. 

In 2023, we were invited back to the Ramingining Remote Community Development Careers Expo, where Eliha shared his journey with his community and family.
