Summer is nearly here, and Australia’s cricket season is already heating up, with a group of enthusiastic backyard cricketers raising $25,000 for the McGrath Foundation.

Eager to make it a hat-trick, Ventia hosted our third Pink Stumps Day encouraging employees, clients and suppliers to raise awareness and funds for breast care nurses across Australia.

McGrath Foundation Ambassador and Director, Tracy Bevan and former Australian cricketers Clea Smith and Julie Hayes, who is also a current Women’s selector and People Services Manager at Ventia, attended the day to spur on our cricket enthusiasts.

The idea of the McGrath Foundation started on a laptop at Tracy’s house in 2005, but she and her late best friend Jane McGrath only ever dreamed it would become the success it is today.

The McGrath Foundation now funds 233 breast care nurses in communities across Australia, and thanks to supporters like Ventia, we’re on track to reach our goal of ensuring no one goes through breast cancer without the support of a breast care nurse.

“A breast cancer diagnosis changes your life, often in ways you wouldn’t expect. Through the expert care of our McGrath Breast Care Nurses, we have supported 143,000 families navigate their way from diagnosis right throughout treatment.”

The driving force behind the event, Ventia’s General Manager for Risk Prue Fellowes, said she was proud of how her colleagues have supported the day.

“I have a very deep and personal appreciation of Ventia’s support of McGrath Foundation with my Mum needing the support of a breast care nurse during her battle with breast cancer, which ended with her passing about a year ago,” Prue said.

The invaluable role specialised breast care nurses provide in physical, emotional, and psychological support to patients and their families is something I will never forget.

The pink-themed day brought together more than 300 people to play cricket, cheer for their teammates, purchase merchandise and try their luck in the raffle – with a $7,000 travel voucher as the major prize.

Thank you to our generous sponsors for the day:
