Andrew Bartlett, General Manager for the Defence Base Services contract was awarded Executive of the Year at the Australian Defence Industry Awards in Canberra. He was also announced as a finalist on the night for the Excellence Award, which is made up of 10 finalists from across all 18 award categories and their 212 finalists. The best of the best of the best!

Andrew is not only a trusted strategic adviser to Defence – but he leads with his heart, and his passion for serving Defence shines through everything he does.

With a workforce of 1,750+ employees, Andrew’s remit over the past 12-months has been to revolutionise Ventia’s asset management system and integrate this with a strong customer centricity in the delivery of services to Defence.

Some standout initiatives delivered under Andrew’s leadership in 2024 include:

The Asset Management Operations Centre, which included significant investment in technology, data analytics and robotic automations. As a result, Ventia have established themselves as industry leaders, providing subject matter expertise across all asset management categories as well as returning over $1m direct savings to Defence annually.

The “MetaBase”, a solution that brings asset data to life via an interactive visual dashboard that supports advance analytics and data informed decision making. Available to our clients, it provides them with transparency and information at the touch of a button.

The “Green” Asset Management solution that treats land management practices such as lawn mowing and garden maintenance as asset maintenance to establish the best aesthetic and environmental outcomes for Defence.

The “Better You” program that drives better nutrition, wellbeing and environmental outcomes to Defence members through the dining experience. Over 3.5million meals served to Defence members in 2023 with increased ASCR ratings and 15% improvement in customer survey data.

The Ventia-designed Redefining Customer Service Excellence and Customer Service Essentials training program that stresses the importance of Customer Service in daily interactions with our client and customers.

Andrew also drives ambitious diversity and inclusion goals, an area he is particularly passionate about, including Indigenous engagement, disability employment pathways, and greater gender balance in leadership roles. His clear targets and vision to lead a team representative of our communities has seen significant social outcomes, including:

  • Growing the indigenous participation to over 5% and establishing an accommodation reception team of a 100% indigenous talent.
  • Partnerships with disability employment services and 40 new team members working with disability. 
  • 60% female senior leadership (Direct Reports to GM) and 37% female leadership overall.
