Ventia has been recognised at the Surat Basin Energy awards, as a finalist in the categories for Leadership and Social Performance & Community.

The Surat Basin Energy Awards celebrate the people and businesses that have shaped energy production in Toowoomba and the Surat Basin. Energy production in Toowoomba and Surat Basin, from natural gas, coal and renewable projects, makes a major contribution to the national electricity market.

Leadership award finalist - Les Irwin

Kyle Koziol, General Manager for Ventia's Rig & Well Services business said Les Irwin, who was a finalist for the Leadership award, is integral not only to our business, but as a leading figure in the Toowoomba and Surat Basin energy industry. He has also made long-term, positive impacts in the region.

Having spent the last two decades in the oil and gas industry, Les is a highly respected leader within Ventia and the local energy sector, known for his specialised and hands-on expertise, mentorship of team members, and work ethic.

He has been instrumental in the development of hundreds of employees within our business, mentoring them, and helping them develop their own leadership skills."

Les said he has seen good leaders and not so good leaders but has always been clear in his mind about the kind of leader he wanted to be.

"I've seen people shine and excel in the industry with the right leaders by their side, and it's inspired me to be the kind of leader that leads by example and encourage others to do the same."

Community Grants Program a finalist for positive community outcomes

Ventia was also recognised as a finalist for the Social Performance and Community award, acknowledging the impact of our community grants program in the region.

Thanks to our community grants program 203 groups in Toowoomba and the Surat Basin region have received more than $320,000 for essential community projects.

"There are countless community groups, clubs and associations in this region that provide essential services to their communities," says Kyle. 

In many cases, these groups are helping fill gaps in their local areas that provide critical safety, health or educational needs for members of the community, from young children through to seniors.'

Recognising apprentices and trainees in the energy sector

Ventia also sponsored the Apprenticeship and Training Award at the event to recognise apprentices and trainees positively contributing to the energy sector.
